Larry Haight: “The Sustainable Community Development Committee that is Co-chaired by Larry McTaggart and Burke Chamberin is going to look at numerous aspects of Green construction and energy usage. If you have ideas or want to be a part of this project, you may contact the town or the committee. This is going to be a catalyst for growth for the whole area.”

An interesting discussion was taking place on Facebook regarding the proposed downtown Bancroft Development project.

“Do We Really Need All of This?” was one of the hottest topics in the conversations that took place with many contributors making very valid, insightful and at times, purely emotional posts.

A member of the Facebook group on Bancroft’s redevelopment project started a new thread on March 11. Please leave a comment below if you have other ideas to share:

“This is not directly related to the redevelopment but it is “Green”. I would like to see a large Yard Sale or Flea Market in the area for recycling items we don’t need. Perhaps by the arena. There is one in Lakefield, one near Ajax and a huge one in Stittsville near Ottawa. I believe it is the largest in Canada. People could rent a space and bring their tables. A great local and tourist draw…”

What’s this all about?

OEB Enterprises (the consultant) working together with Evanco (the developer), Forrec (the designer), and town council, have proposed a Mineral Museum, Government Buildings, Condominiums, a Town Square, Hotel, Community Center, retail stores, restaurants, board walks along the river’s edge and more to improve the downtown core of Bancroft, Ontario.

The comments below (please leave your own) represent views of the community, council and visitors to our area.

Strategic Plan

For almost a year, the Revitalization Committee has been laying the groundwork for a facelift and revitalization of the downtown. The next step is to develop a Community Improvement Plan for MAH to approve before any development commences.

There is a lot of work to do before this project puts a shovel in the ground, but we are working on it and with the 6 committees that have been established, there are great opportunities for energetic people to get involved and help steer this development.

It is downtown Bancroft’s development and your input is necessary.
